The great thing about our troupe is that we DO keep costs to a minimum, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY EVERYTHING YOURSELF and if you look at the costs involved you would need a mortgage just to cover it. For this reason we insist on ALL members participating in the various fundraising events throughout the year, because without this our club would just cease to exist.
So where do we start... For those of you who are only new to the scene, please find below some examples of what it costs to kit out our gals, We don't always use everything all of the time, or have 1 of everything for each and every member (although that would be nice) but it is there to use;
£50-60 Leotard dress & thats only of a basic design
£75 Military Uniform - We'd love the hats too but they are about £60 each!
£20 Jazz Pants
£35 Club Tracksuit
£35 Pair of Pom Poms
£45 Big Flag
£40 Flag Baton
£191 Twirling Mace
£27 Twirling Hoops
£12 Ribbon Wands
£?? Combination Outfit - We ask our members to kit themselves out
Have I missed anything?? PROBABLY!
As we are a non-profit organisation, all monies taken in go towards the running costs of the club - Not only do we supply all the above, but there are other things to take into consideration such as:
Hall Hire
Association Fees
Competition Fees
End of Year Presentation - hall, disco, trophies
Extra Training
Occasional Instructors from other organisations
Misc - decorations at carnivals, various props, all the headware, gel hairspray etc!
There are so many little things its unbelievable but fundraising on a regular basis helps to keep your costs down.
If any of you go to Dance classes you will be well aware you have to supply everything and you can expect to pay around £4 for a 45 minute session, so in comparison our club is far cheaper.
I know it can be difficult when there is more than 1 family member, but don't forget, the couple of items you need to provide do not have to be new - it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Most Dance clubs have pre-owned jazz shoes for sale, and there are many batons around owned by ex members - & I would suggest paying no more than £10 for a pre-owned baton.
I only recommend use/purchase of a Starlet baton, made by Starline, they last forever if you look after them and can always be sold on at a reasonable cost when you outgrow it. Do check with Jen tho to make sure you get the right size!
